Unclaimed Property
On October 19, the Comptroller published its yearly Unclaimed Property List in newspapers throughout the state. But Texans can find out at any time if they have monies due them, just waiting to be claimed. You may find it helpful to remind your clients that the site (http://www.window.state.tx.us/up/) has an up-to-date listing of all Texas entities that may have a right to unclaimed property.
There is over $2 billion in unclaimed property held by the state. Some of the items held represent forgotten bank accounts, uncashed paychecks, dividends, insurance proceeds and abandoned safe deposit box contents.
